Remember my little bean in the jar I posted about a month ago? In case you don't,
here's the post ;-) Anyway, in a short month, one dried kidney bean, taken from a regular old bag of dried beans from the grocery store, put into an old yogurt container with potting soil, has grown into a vine and has sprouted bean pods!! I can't describe how excited I am about this, as I have a definite non-green thumb! Here are some pictures:

Also, a while back, as another homeschool project, we planted a popcorn kernel. Its been slow going, and I thought it was done - it hadn't grown any taller in over a month, and, never having grown corn before, I didn't know what to look for signs of ears growing (unlike the bean vine, which had flowers). While checking the bean today, Isaac inspected the corn, and pointed out to me that there were places that had silk coming from them! Sure enough, there are 3 little tiny ears growing on our corn stalks!

A third growing thing has also been added to our back deck - I call it our "Friendship Tree" - it was given to us from
Paul and Duk-Sun Spillers, members of the new
church we've been attending! Its a baby Yoshino Cherry tree, only a year old or so. We're waiting until its a bit bigger to replant it, and until then we're trying to find just the right spot. Its a very special tree for me, it really represents the way the Lord has been growing us, leading us to special friends and fellowships in our new church body, helping us to branch out, both spiritually and socially.
Here is the beauty we have to look forward to!

WOW erin... I'm amazed!!!
If you've been tracking my garden project on my blog you'll find I'm not where near as successful as you w/ the green beans... maybe I'll have to just grown them from dried beans next year :P
Erin,
I know I was very impressed (even somewhat surprised) by how well beans and corn grow in little plastic cups when I was shooting the Discover & Do DVDs. I still love the line we came up with on the spot: "Look at these bean plants! They're huge! They're Un-Bean-Leaf-able!"
Good, good times.
So glad yours are growing so well! May your family, also, continue to grow up healthy and strong, ready and willing to do great things.

Those plants are so cool! I want a deck now, just so I can plants some beans and corn and see if they grow.
