I started "wearing my babies" after Ezra was born. My mom sent me a ring sling, and while it took a while for me to get the hang of it, little did she know it was the beginning of a wonderful addiction for me! My only carriers at that point were the ring sling and a frame backpack. Here's me and Ez on vacation in Tennessee with him in the backpack:
By the time Joel was born, I was head-over-heels in love with babywearing, and that boy stayed a heartbeat away from me for his entire infancy, all the way into toddlerhood. At this point, though, I only had the ring sling, as the backpack had gotten left outside and rusty/moldy (oops!). Here is my favorite picture of Joel in the sling when he was about 8 months old:After much research, I convinced Michael to let me try out an Ergo. The company I was wanting to purchase it from offered a 90-day money back guarantee, so he relented... and the investment we made in our Ergo has paid for itself many, many, many times over!! We take it everywhere, and use it ALL. THE. TIME. Michael just took the boys for a hike up Stone Mountain last week, and carried Nathan (yes, Nathan, our 36 pound 3.5 year old!) on his back in it. Here are some pictures of our Ergo in use over the years:
Even Isaac got in on the fun - this is when he was almost 6! The Ergo has a 40 pound weight limit!
Judah came along and followed the pattern of his brothers. He spent the first 6-8 weeks of babyhood in the pouch or sling, and then graduated into the Ergo. He still rides (usually on Daddy's back) when we go for walks or out places that he needs to be contained. I rarely ever use a stroller, although I do have one for "just in case".If you've got little ones and never tried babywearing, I highly encourage you to give it a try! It is such a sweet bonding experience, and really helps keep things peaceful!
(Disclaimer: Michael wants me to assert that he really dislikes the term "babywearing". He says "What are they, jewelry? Is it a sport of some kind?" I only use the term because its easier than saying "keeping your baby attached to you through the use of a baby carrier" all the time!)

ha! I've been teased about having enough carriers by my husband, too. He says I'm trying to collect them all! Truly, though, I only have 3 because I have sold what I didn't like. :)
I ♥ this post! I'm working on a similar post so that I can show off my new Ergo that my dear, sweet friend gave me for my b-day. :-) I ♥ babywearing, also!
I tried it with my oldest boy but I had a cheapo Walmart carrier and it killed my back. I wish I had known back then that there was a better way!
You *so* need a Moby for this one, Erin. I used one for Cora and *loved* it. It's getting passed along to my cousin. :-) She wants to babywear her little guy (due to arrive in Dec.). I'm so happy about that.
The wrap is wonderful for newborns and infants. I use a ring sling for most of the time, but the wrap is what I use to carry them kangaroo style when they want to face out. Also, for long distance walking, it's not as hard on your one shoulder. I haven't carried my kids past 2yrs old or so, but I have a special needs daughter that will probably be worn for years to come. She's never rode in a stroller and she's almost a year. Looking into larger backpack type carriers, but I might need some head support for her. I'll have to look into the Ergo! I love babywearing, too!
So I attmepted to comment on this a couple day ago and my computer seized up. It really stunk. I love this post too. I used a moby with Truett everyday till he was about 4 or 5 months and then switched over to the ergo. I have a over the shoulder baby holder I got a garage sale for $2 bucks and a homemade ring sling type from the seminary thrift store, but everytime I use them my back gets all out of wack. I am convinced too that I don't really know how to use them either. To all those out there that say it spoils your baby and we'll never be able to put them down, DON'T KNOCK IT TILL YOU TRY IT!!
